Ironic Twist seeking irony, because sarcasm clashes with my outfit

Saturday, February 19, 2005 :::

If you can guess which eight bands I contributed to this list, I'll buy you a drink at Wednesday's bluestate.

Damn you, Fox: You giveth and you (possibly) taketh away. Damn you.

Guess what I've got for you today, courtesy of Filter? An exclusive stream of a new Garbage song from their upcoming album, Bleed Like Me, due out April 12.

"Why Do You Love Me?"

My first thought was, "I've heard better Garbage songs," but still, how excited am I for the album? Very, very, very excited.

Remember like a year and a half ago when The Realistics were my favorite NYC band? And how I was really excited because the band was doing really well and recording a new album?

After headlining a show at Irving Plaza in December 2003, they suddenly stopped playing shows and updating their site, which signaled the end. Yeah, I really knew that the band had broken up…but I was hopeful that the album would come out nonetheless and that the band would suddenly re-emerge. Because once in a while a girl has to be optimistic, and I might as well be optimistic about this.

The other day, out of nowhere, Mike (bass) sent out an e-mail to The Realistics’ mailing list telling everyone to check out another NYC band, Blue Sparks. I e-mailed Mike back and asked about The Realistics, because I really wanted to know what had happened. So, here’s a Realistics update. Turns out, Dennis (vocals, guitar) had gone off to work solo and the band decided to break up instead of looking for a new member. They are, however, still trying to release the album, but of course it’s harder to get financial support for an album that won’t be supported by a tour. So let’s keep our fingers crossed, kids, because I really want to hear this album.

In the meantime, Mike is working with Blue Sparks. Their site is still in progress, but you can download two songs on their MySpace page.

I’ll have more on Blue Sparks once I hear more.

Their Logic Breaks My Heart

Watch The Stills' new video for "Love and Death":

Real: All Speeds
Windows: 100k | 300k | 450k
Quicktime: 56k | 100k | 300k | 450k

Directed by Chris Grismer (Arcade Fire, Death From Above 1979, Stars) featuring a cameo by Emily Haines from Metric/Broken Social Scene. The band is home in Montreal recording their new album. Look for the first single this summer.

If you ever get a chance to see them live, do it.

Work blows because it's almost 7 p.m. and I'm still here and I haven't had time to blog about any of the fun things I did this weekend. One of the fun things was the Palomar/Cartel/Outland show at Velvet Lounge with GM and KK, and GM has a write-up. I'll add my three cents when I get a chance.
